WESTPORT — A 60-year-old driver, accused of leaving the scene of a Post Road East accident while driving under the influence, was found nearby allegedly “passed out” behind the wheel, police said.
Kevin Metcalf, of Trumbull, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility and illegal operation of a motor vehicle with his license under suspension.
A motor vehicle accident was reported to police about 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 near the intersection of Post Road East and Compo Road North.
Officers dispatched to the scene found the driver of a car that struck the rear of another vehicle had fled the scene. Occupants of the vehicle that was hit from behind did not report serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the car that was struck was instructed to pull into a nearby parking lot so the investigation would not block traffic.
There, according to the report, police also found the vehicle suspected of causing the crash and its driver “passed out” behind the wheel.
The driver — identified as Kevin Metcalf — subsequently was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which police said he failed.
Metcalf was taken into custody and formally charged at Police Department headquarters. He was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 20 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
