WESTPORT — A 56-year-old driver faces charges after striking a jogger on Greens Farms Road earlier this week and leaving the accident scene, police said.
James Doyle, of Westport, was charged with reckless driving, failure to carry a driver’s license and failure to drive in the proper lane in connection with the Jan. 8 incident.
An officer was dispatched shortly after 8 a.m. Jan. 8 to the area of Greens Farms and Hillspoint roads to investigate the report of a jogger hit by a car, according to the police report.
The jogger suffered what were described as “minor injuries” in the shoulder area after being hit by a car turning from Greens Farms Road onto Hillspoint Road, police said.
The vehicle did not stop, according to the report.
While the officer was interviewing the jogger, a witness arrived at the scene and reported the suspect’s vehicle was at the Cumberland Farms outlet at Post Road East and Hillspoint Road, where he reportedly said something about “hitting a jogger,” police said.
Officers went to the convenience store where they identified the vehicle involved in the accident, and found the driver — identified as James Doyle — inside.
Doyle was taken to Police Department headquarters where he was formally charged, and later released on a promise to appear for arraignment Jan. 19 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
