WESTPORT — A New Jersey driver who told police he lost control of his car after striking a rock on Bermuda Road last week, causing him to crash into two parked cars and then flee the scene, has been arrested.

Ervis Zeqo, 34, of Little Ferry, N.J., was charged July 28 with evading responsibility, operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Officers were dispatched to Bermuda Road about 10:20 p.m. July 28 to investigate the report of an accident.

At the scene, police found a car that had crashed into two other vehicles parked on the street, but the driver had vanished, according to the report.

After searching the area, police found a man walking near Bermuda Road’s intersection with Surf Road.

He was subsequently identified as Zeqo. While being questioned by police, Zeqo admitted to driving the car that had crashed, but said he lost control of the vehicle when it hit a rock in the roadway, according to the report.

Officers, who searched the stretch of Bermuda Road where the accident occurred, reported they were not able to locate a rock or any other obstructions in the street.

Zeqo was placed under arrest, and later released after posting $500 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Aug. 3 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
