WESTPORT — A home-health aide helping a local woman has been charged with identity theft after allegedly stealing two of the resident’s checks and cashing them with a forged signature.

Latonya Still, 42, of Stratford, was charged last week with two counts of second-degree identity theft.

Still’s arrest came after a police investigation into a complaint filed Feb. 21, 2021, by a woman who said her home-health aide took two of her checks and illegally cashed them.

Both checks — totaling $750 — were made out to “Latonya Still,” according to the complaint, and were cashed in Bridgeport after the local woman’s signature was forged, police said.

The woman told police that when she confronted Still, the aide admitted that she took the checks and cashed them, according to the complaint.

However, police said that when Still was interviewed by an officer investigating the complaint she denied the allegations.

Based on the investigation, however, police secured a warrant for Still’s arrest.

Still was arrested July 12 by Trumbull police, and turned over to Westport officers.

She was released after posting $20,000 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges July 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
