WESTPORT–A woman wanted for charges in Branford drew attention to herself when she drove the wrong way on a one way street toward a Westport police officer, and then struggled with police while they investigated a warrant for her arrest, police said.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. on April 1, 2026, when Alison Apicella, 68, drove the wrong way on Franklin Street. A police officer signaled her to stop, but Apicella rolled her window up and tried several times to change directions, police said.

A computer check showed that she was wanted on a warrant held by the Branford Police, where, court records show, she had been charged with driving with a suspended license or registration and resisting arrest five months earlier.

She stopped the car for Westport police, but then allegedly argued and refused to get out of her car, police said. The confrontation allegedly ended with a physical struggle, police said.  

A warrant was issued for her arrest. On Tuesday, July 28, she voluntarily reported to the Westport Police Department, where she was charged with interfering with an officer and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. She was also charged with second-degree failure to appear in court for the Branford case, police said.

She was released on a total of $3,500 bond for both cases, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Stamford on Aug. 18 for the Westport charges and in Superior Court in New Haven on Aug. 25, for the Branford charges, police said.
