WESTPORT–A Trumbull teenager on a motorcycle fled a police officer trying to stop him for alleged traffic violations on May 19, but was arrested shortly afterward when he stopped at Sasco Beach in Fairfield, police said.
Brandon Bivona, 19, was riding a red 2022 Honda CBR600 on Post Road East near Main Street at about 1 p.m., when he allegedly cut in front of the police officer as a traffic light turned green, and zipped past another vehicle in a no-passing zone. The motorcycle had no registration plate.
Bivona did not stop when the officer turned on his lights and siren. He instead continued riding east.
Rather than pursue the suspect farther, the officer alerted other officers via radio.
A minute or two later, a Westport detective spotted Bivona’s motorcycle still moving east, near the Fairfield Town line. He lost sight of the suspect, but correctly guessed that Bivona had stopped nearby. He checked the local beaches and found the motorcycle at Sasco Beach in Fairfield.
As the detective arrived, Bivona was getting back on the bike. The detective blocked the exit road and attempted to identify himself while ordering Bivona to stop. Instead, the teenager allegedly swerved around the detective and onto the sand, where he lost control of the bike, dropping it.
Bivona was arrested and the proper registration plate for the motorcycle was found in its rear seat compartment.
Police charged him with interfering with an officer, a misdemeanor, and several motor vehicle violations, specifically, failure to display plates, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, failure to drive right and improper passing.
He was released on $6,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on Tuesday.
