WESTPORT–A Piscataway, N.J., man who drove into a commercial garbage truck on the morning of Jan. 4 was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police found an open beer bottle in his car, Westport police said.
Yash Master, 30, was driving alone in a Toyota Camry when, police said, he rear-ended the truck near 375 Post Road West shortly before 4:30 a.m. No one was injured, police said.
In addition to finding the bottle, police said Master seemed confused when answering an officer’s questions, his eyes were glassy and his breath smelled of alcohol, police said. He failed field sobriety tests and, while he initially agreed to a chemical breath test, he later refused to cooperate with the process, police said.
Police charged Master with operating under the influence, following too closely and traveling unreasonably fast. He was released after posting bond on $500 bail and is due on Superior Court in Stamford on Jan. 28.
