WESTPORT — A New York man — nabbed early Wednesday after he allegedly stole a bicycle from a Wakenor Road garage — also had several stolen credit cards in his possession, police said.
Michael Correa, 20 of College Point, N.Y., was charged early Wednesday, Dec. 15, with third-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and payment card theft.
Police said additional charges might be filed in the case, which remains under investigation.
The incident began about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday after a Wakenor Road resident reported that a man was peering into cars parked in his driveway.
Minutes later, the man was seen driving from the scene on a bicycle he allegedly stole from the Wakenor home’s garage.
An officer dispatched to the area soon spotted a man riding a bicycle, and when he tried to talk to him, the suspect jumped off the bike and fled, police said.
Officers set up a perimeter around the search area, assisted by a police K-9, but the suspect could not be located immediately.
A short time later, however, a man was spotted walking on Hickory Drive, which abuts the area where the bicycle was reported stolen.
The man was stopped, and subsequently identified as the same person who previously fled when questioned about the bike, which also was identified as the one stolen on Wakenor Road.
The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently identified as Michael Correa. He also had several credit cards in his possession, which police confirmed had been stolen, according to the report.
Correa was held on $10,000 bond and transported to state Superior Court in Stamford for arraignment later in the day.
