WESTPORT — A new, technology-enhanced initiative has been launched to provide the town’s emergency services with critical information when responding to fires, health calls, accidents and disasters of any kind.
“Commununity Connect” is designed to enhance emergency responses based on information registered by local households and businesses.
The free, voluntary registry is “a secure, user-friendly platform that allows Westport residents to voluntarily share essential household information with emergency service personnel,” according to a statement Wednesday by Fire Department officials.
Information provided to Community Connect includes “details such as emergency contacts, functional needs, and pet information, helps first responders to act more swiftly and effectively, ultimately leading to better outcomes during emergencies,” officials said.
Here’s how Community Connect works, according to its website:
Create an account: Sign in for free and provide email, phone number and address.
Enter essential information: Provide details that can help first responders react more effectively during an emergency.
Help the Fire Department when seconds count: Keep officials updated when details change to ensure the most efficient response.
The Community Connect website also suggests the kinds of data that can be registered, including details about a property, residents and their contact information, any special needs or functional/mobility issues, and pets.
“Community Connect is a valuable tool for our community,” Fire Chief Nick Marsan said in a statement announcing the project. “When responding to a residence, having access to critical details — such as who the primary point of contact is, any special needs of the occupants, or even the presence of pets — can significantly enhance how we manage and resolve the situation.
“This proactive approach enables us to serve our residents in the most efficient manner when it matters most,” he added.
The local initiative has been developed in collaboration with technology partner, First Due.
