WESTPORT — Firefighters doused a chimney fire spreading through two stories of a Westway Road home Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday to the scene of a chimney fire at Westway Road home, after a resident reported seeing flames erupt on the exterior chimney for a wood-burning stove.

The first firefighters to arrive reported fire was spreading to the dwelling’s exterior wall.

After confirming that all residents had safely left the home, “firefighters opened up walls on two floors of the house and found active fire burning on the first floor and extending up the walls into the second floor,” according to the report by Deputy Fire Chief Nicholas Marsan.

Firefighters then were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and prevent flames from spreading.

No injuries were reported, the report says.

While Westport firefighters were on scene, mutual aid was provided by Fairfield and Norwalk fire crews.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
