To the editor:

Here in Westport, many of us are fortunate enough to be able to get in our reliable cars and get to our polling place on Election Day.

Others who may be out of town, serving in the military, or physically disabled are permitted to vote via absentee ballot.

But many people who find it challenging to get to the polls do not qualify for absentee ballots:

  • Working multiple jobs.
  • Juggling family obligations.
  • Having unreliable transportation.
  • Non-physical disabilities

This is undemocratic and unfair. Happily, this can be remediated by voting YES on the question that appears on your ballot as: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?”

I urge Westport voters to vote YES on the ballot resolution question and enable ALL eligible Connecticut voters to exercise their right to vote.
