To the editor:

As the general manager of a Main Street business (Mexicue) there are many times during the day when I need to run out of the restaurant to perform different errands. These include running to the store, the bank and picking up staff at the train station.

While I understand the reasoning for the three-hour parking, I do not have time to park 10 to 15 minutes away and constantly walk back and forth to the all-day parking areas, which is very hard to find a spot in if you come to work after 12 p.m.

A parking pass for merchants would go a long way in helping the business owner run their operations.

Another reason for the parking pass is for the employees who must close the restaurant late at night. I have young girls walking out late at night and do not want them walking by themselves when people know they will be carrying money after work.

We are not looking for the whole staff to have a pass, but just a few for each business to help us run our businesses.

While thinking about the passes please think about ending the Church Lane closure for the six months from May till November. It helps only one business and hurts all the other businesses in the area by losing parking spaces and making it harder to get to the Post Road when you need to run out quickly.
