Following is the obituary for DOMINICK J. DeMACE, submitted for the family by the Harding Funeral Home.
. . .
Dominick J. DeMace, known to his family, friends and loved ones as “Babe,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 5, 2022.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1932, to Josephine and Pasquale DeMace, and was raised in Westport.
He served as a corporal in the Army stationed in Trieste from 1952 to 1954. Upon getting discharged he met his wife, Margaret Labbance DeMace, when she moved in across the street. They started their family and he spent his career as a well-respected union electrician.
He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #46, in Norwalk. On Saturdays, you could find him as an usher at Assumption’s evening Mass followed promptly by a visit to his brother’s restaurant, Mario’s, where he was a well-known presence helping in any capacity.
Family was most important to him. He was generous, both in his trade and in his personal life. He cared greatly about all those he loved.
There was not anything he couldn’t fix, from home projects and renovations to client’s and friend’s projects. His Italian heritage meant he was an authority on cooking and consuming delicious meals.
He worked hard to provide for his family and will be remembered for his loyalty and loving nature.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Wallace, and brothers, Michael, Joseph and Frank DeMace.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Margaret; his sister, Theresa (Tess) DeMattia; his children, David DeMace, Danielle Yingling and Dominick DeMace (Joanne); his grandchildren, Stephanie Fagan (Joseph), Christina Bierwirth, Natalie, Emily, Elisabeth and Eric DeMace; his three great-grandchildren, Connor and Devin Fagan and Andrew Bierwirth, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Church of the Assumption on Wednesday, March 9, at 10 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to St. Jude.
