_____________________________
Ann La Rue Matlow died at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital in New York on May 6, 2024, with her husband, David, by her side. The cause was related to complications associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She was 77.
Ann was born on June 15, 1946, in New York City to the late Knox La Rue and Mary Sue Simmons. When she was an infant, her parents moved to California, where she lived most of the time in Stockton.
A graduate of Occidental College (1968) and Fordham Law School (1975), she enjoyed a 30-year career as a corporate and immigration attorney, retiring in 2006 as partner in the New York-based Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, global immigration law firm.
Characterized by her development of decades-long friendships, she often said her years at Occidental College greatly influenced her life. For her 35 years as secretary of the Class of 1968, she was recognized in June 2023 by the college’s 50-year Club as the outstanding alumna for her long service to the institution.
Living in both Westport and Manhattan, she was active in social and community organizations in both locations. She had a personal affection for the arts and international travel, including studies each summer for the past 15 years at Cambridge University in England.
Ann is survived by David Matlow, her husband of 34 years; her brother, John La Rue and his wife Dianne (Watsonville, Calif.); half-brothers, Robert La Rue and his wife Teri (Linden, Calif.) and Knox La Rue, Jr. (Stockton, Calif.); cousins, Frank Bailey and Suzanne Henderson (both of Fresno, Calif.); step-daughter, Laura Wong-Pan and husband Ray (Gardiner, N.Y.) and step-son, Jeff Matlow and wife Catherine (Los Angeles, Calif.), and three granddaughters, Emily and Samantha Wong-Pan (Gardiner, N.Y.) and Adelaide Griffin-Matlow (Los Angeles).
A date and location of a celebration of her life will be announced by the family in the future.
