WESTPORT — With most of the board and commission chairs occupied by women — as well as other female leaders holding key roles in town — International Women’s Day was honored and proclaimed in Westport Tuesday morning.

First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker and Second Selectwoman Andrea Moore hosted an informal get-together at Town Hall, with more than a dozen of the town’s women leaders in attendance.

“This town has been run for a number of years by some very, very talented women,” Tooker said.

“We work toward a gender-equal world,” she read in a proclamation, “a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination, a world that’s diverse, equitable and inclusive.”

“A world where we can forge women’s equality (and) we celebrate women’s achievements in whatever path they choose,” she said.

Tooker noted the historic presence of an all-woman Board of Selectwomen, which includes Third Selectwoman Candice Savin, as well as the many female leaders elected, appointed and hired for town positions.

“We have a lot of really cool women in Westport,” she said.
