WESTPORT — The town’s fall road-paving program, in an effort to avoid heavier weekday traffic along the Long Lots Road corridor, has received an exemption to continue work this Saturday and next as well as the Monday holiday.

Road crews, which usually carry out the paving program on weekdays, have been granted police permission to work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 12 and 19, as well as Monday, Oct. 14, observed as Indigenous Peoples Day (formerly, Columbus Day).

The weekend work schedule is planned to avoid peak travel times along Long Lots Road, which also will affect Fresenius and Burr Farms roads, according to Department of Public Works officials.
