WESTPORT — A dazzling display of northern lights was sparked overhead locally Thursday night — and across a wide swath of the United States — by a powerful solar storm.

Eerily beautiful images of the aurora were photographed glowing over Compo Beach by Jeff Klein of Closer to Infinity.
