WESTPORT — Westporters recently witnessed a minor engineering marvel as a new span for one of the nation’s busiest highways was built overhead and then slid into place.
Click the above image or here to view the time-lapse video of the Interstate 95 bridge replacement over Saugatuck Avenue, from the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
The northbound span work over Saugatuck Avenue caused major traffic disruptions Oct. 20-23, but was completed 14 hours ahead of schedule.
The fun part?
It’ll all happen again Nov. 3-6 when the southbound span will be demolished and its replacement slid into place.
