WESTPORT–The Board of Finance realizes that many Westport taxpayers are concerned about how the town spends its money. And, this year, a revaluation year, concerns are heightened.

“The board wants to get more Westporters more involved in what we do and how we make decisions. We want Westporters to understand town finances better, and we want to hear from them about their concerns,” member Allyson Stollenwerck said.

To meet that goal, the Board of Finance is launching “Office Hours,” starting Thursday, Jan. 22, at The Westport Library.

During these “Office Hours,” a member of the board will be available for casual conversations with residents about The Town of Westport’s finances:

  • How does the town come up with the annual budget?
  • What expenditures is the town considering (cheat sheet here)?
  • Who decides what big projects are taken on?
  • How does the town pay for new school facilities?
  • How does Westport stack up against neighboring towns?
  • What other finance-related questions you might have.

Morning office hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and evening office hours from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
