WESTPORT — The Westport Library closed at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday because its air conditioning broke down.

The main doors and some windows were open Tuesday afternoon as temperatures rose into the mid-90s.

The director and executive assistant weren’t available for comment, but a staffer said a crew had been working around the clock to repair the air conditioning.

The repairs are expected to be complete in time to open Wednesday morning, the staffer said.

The library has been seeking American Rescue Plan Act funding from the town to upgrade its air conditioning.
