WESTPORT — Local state legislators will host a public forum on state energy rates, which have soared over the last year, on Feb. 6 at the Westport Library.

The Town Hall-style event, open to the public, is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

Scheduled to participate are state Reps. Jonathan Steinberg and Anne Hughes, and state Sen. Ceci Maher.

The general surge in energy costs was brought into sharp focus at the start of this year when the state’s two largest electric distribution companies, Eversource and United Illuminating, doubled their standard service rates for customers.

“The severe service rate increases impact thousands of Connecticut families who have already faced numerous challenges over the last few years, and now may not have the resources they need to keep their heat and lights on throughout the winter months,” organizers of the forum said in a statement.
