WESTPORT — First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker wants you!

Wants you to volunteer for civic service, that is.

Town residents, who are registered to vote, are being recruited to serve on a newly constituted Fair Rent Commission, which was established last July in compliance with a state mandate.

Of the five commission members, one will be a tenant in a rented residence, one will be a landlord and the three others “shall be neither a residential tenant nor residential landlord,” according to the ordinance language.

The panel’s five members will be appointed by the first selectwoman, and will serve staggered four-year terms.

Volunteers “with varying interests, talents, backgrounds and political affiliations,” according to Tooker’s announcement, also are sought to serve on several existing boards and commissions.

These include:

Architectural Review Board, Arts Advisory Committee, Blight Prevention Board and Commission for Senior Services.

Also, Conservation Commission, Flood and Erosion Control Board (alternates) and Historic District Commission.

And, Parks Advisory Committee, Tree Board and Youth Commission.

Descriptions of those panels’ roles in town government and the responsibilities of members can be found listed here on the town’s website.

Voters interested in serving on any of the panels should fill out an application form (click here), including a brief summary of the applicant’s background or resume, and email it to: selectwoman@westportct.gov.

Applicants will then by contacted by the Office of the First Selectwoman to explore their interests.
