WESTPORT — A meeting to update the public on traffic safety improvements designed for a stretch of road that has been called the “most dangerous” in town will be hosted Feb. 8 by town officials.
The crash-prone Cross Highway corridor, from North Avenue to Bayberry Lane, has been the subject of a $313,500 traffic study approved in 2022.
The meeting on the project is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Town Hall auditorium, 110 Myrtle Ave.
When town boards were reviewing the traffic safety proposal in 2022, Public Works Director Peter Ratkiewich said of that section of Cross Highway: “Luckily, no one has gotten killed, but we are really worried.”

In announcing the public information session, officials said the design phase of the project is “mostly complete,” and construction is expected to start soon.
Staff from the Department of Public Works and representatives from the project’s engineering consultants, Tighe & Bond, will be on hand to detail the planned design and to answer questions about how the work will be carried out and the impact on the neighborhood.
