WESTPORT — Reconstruction of the Interstate 95 corridor through the Saugatuck section of town will force “intermittent” closures of southbound Exit 17, starting Monday, through the end of the month.

The closures are expected to take place periodically from Monday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 27, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

During those times, southbound I-95 traffic will be detoured off the highway at Exit 18, onto the Sherwood Island Connector to the Post Road, heading west to Riverside Avenue and then back onto I-95.

The closures, which the DOT said are expected to last about 15 minutes, will allow for removal of loose rock around the exit ramp.

The work is part of the state’s reconstruction and resurfacing of I-95 along the highway’s corridor through the Saugatuck area of Westport into Norwalk. (Read more about the project here.)

The $103.4 million project is scheduled to be completed by November 2024, according to the DOT.
