WESTPORT — “Slice of Saugatuck,” a celebration of neighborhood cuisine, commerce and culture, will take place Saturday afternoon, as the forecast calls for skies to clear after Friday’s storms, organizers say.

The event, sponsored by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce for an 11th year, will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in the area bracketed by Railroad Place, Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue. Earlier in the month is postponed because of inclement weather on the originally scheduled date of Sept. 9.

Slice of Saugatuck tickets cost $15 for adults, $5 for children under 13 years old and youngsters under 5 will be admitted free. Tickets will be sold only at the event, beginning at 1:50 p.m. before activities get underway.

Highlights will include a range of culinary treats served by area eateries and merchandising specials offered by businesses, as well as music performed at venues around the festival area.

For adult attendees, there will be two beer and wine gardens at Bridge Square and Railroad Place. Many restaurants will also offer specialty drinks inside their premises.

Attractions for the younger crowd will include bouncy houses, a balloon bender and a face painter.

Police issue traffic/parking advisories

  • Railroad Place will be closed to motor vehicles, from Riverside Avenue to Franklin Street, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday to allow vendors time to set up booths and disassemble equipment for the festival, according to a police advisory.
  • The east side of Riverside Avenue, from Charles Street to Bridge Street, will be a temporary “No Parking” zone during the event.
  • Other roads in the area will remain open to vehicular traffic, but police warn drivers to expect both heavy pedestrian traffic and vehicular congestion.
  • Saugatuck Railroad Station’s parking lots, except Lot No. 2, will be available for event parking.
