WESTPORT — Evening hours of the Wheels2U Westport on-demand transit program between the town’s two railroad stations and homes are being extended Tuesday.
Riders can now arrange for service from the Saugatuck and Greens Farms depots to their homes between 4 to 9:30 p.m., an expansion from the previous afternoon/evening hours of 4 to 8 p.m.
Wheels2U Westport’s morning service from a rider’s home to either of the local railroad stations remains unchanged, from 5:45 to 9:45 a.m.
Commuters leaving New York’s Grand Central Terminal as late as the 8:07 p.m. Metro-North train will be able to reserve a ride on a Wheels2U shuttle, according to a statement from the transit service.
Once a seat is booked, a rider will receive an estimated time of arrival and be able to track the location of the shuttle in real time.
Pickups at the Saugatuck station take place on the westbound side of the platform at the corner of Franklin Street or on Railroad Place near the elevator.
Pickups at Greens Farms are in the large commuter parking lot, just west of New Creek Road.
There may be more than one shuttle waiting so riders should look for the vehicle number displayed in the Wheels2U app to make sure they are boarding the right one, officials said.
The fare is $2 per ride when paid with the Wheels2U app. A Metro-North Uniticket rail/bus pass can also be used.
