WESTPORT — Here’s how to register as a new voter for the Nov. 5 election, and the schedule for casting ballots as an “early-voting” period takes effect for the first general election in the state’s history.
Registering as a new voter
A registration session for new voters is planned Friday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., in Town Hall Room 107, 110 Myrtle Ave.
People registering to vote online, by postal mail or at a Department of Motor Vehicles office must make sure their application is received by the Westport Registrars of Voters office by Oct. 18 to be valid.
In-person voter registration also will be accepted on any day during the early-voting period from Oct. 21 through Nov. 3, as well as on Election Day, Nov. 5, at the Registrars of Voters office in Town Hall Room 107.
Early-voting schedule
This will be the first time Connecticut voters are eligible to cast ballots in advance of a general election day, under a change approved to the state Constitution by voters in 2022. Voters in the state’s presidential and congressional primaries earlier this year also were able to take advantage of early-voting periods, although the number of days allotted was shorter than for the Nov. 5 general election.
Early voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 21-31 and Nov. 1-3, with extended hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 31.
All early-voting sessions will take place in the Town Hall auditorium, 110 Myrtle Ave.
Voting on Election Day, Nov. 5, will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the town’s usual five polling stations. For a list of the polling stations and a map of local voting districts, click here.
