WESTPORT — Water is elemental to the imagery of faith for many religious traditions.
So, with the arrival of warm weather, several area congregations are hosting weekly worship services at water’s edge Sunday mornings on Compo Beach through the Labor Day weekend.
The services take place at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, near the beach’s cannons, according to organizers.
The first of the gatherings took place last Sunday, hosted by the United Methodist Church of Westport and Weston. The service was led by the church’s Rev Heather A.M. Sinclair, with Harry Jordan providing music.
Other religious communities participating in the weekly service include Green’s Farms Church, Saugatuck Congregational Church, Norfield Congregational Church and Wilton Congregational Church.
Attendees are advised to bring their own chairs. Those planning to join the service, who do not have a Westport beach pass, are advised to tell the attendant at the Compo Beach entrance.
