WESTPORT — After the town was throttled by a mix of driving rain and gusting winds overnight Monday into early Tuesday — triggering close to 1,500 power outages — electric service had been restored to most local Eversource customers by 2 p.m.

The power company reported that only 32 Westport customers had no service as of that hour, down from 1,472 who lost service shortly before 5 a.m. That was more than 11 percent of the local customer base.

Westport suffered the largest number of outages among all the communities served by Eversource at the height of the storm, according to the power company’s website.

The storm, as predicted Monday by the National Weather Service, began pounding southwestern Connecticut late Monday.

However, by late Tuesday morning the NWS lifted all the warnings about hazardous conditions issued in advance of the onslaught.

Skies for the remainder of Tuesday were forecast to remain mostly cloudy as the temperature rises to a high of about 50 degrees.

Wednesday, according to the weather service, should be sunny with a high temperature near 60 degrees.

In the event of power outages, report them online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the power company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates.
