WESTPORT — Chill out to start the new year. Literally.

Celebrate 2025 by taking to the c-c-cold waters off Compo Beach on Jan. 1 by participating in the “Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Bear Plunge.” The event benefits Abilis, the regional nonprofit that supports more than 800 individuals with disabilities and their families from birth throughout their lives.

To register for the plunge, scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Compo Beach, click here.

Money raised will be dedicated to development and renovation of a new Abilis Gardens & Gifts shop in the Glenville section of Greenwich. The shop is one of seven Abilis businesses that offer “retail job skills training and meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities,” according to the organization.
