The fire-damaged bridge over Interstate 95 in Norwalk, above, was completely demolished by early afternoon Saturday. An earlier view, about 11 a.m. via DOT webcam, shows crews had taken down about half of the structure.

NORWALK — A live video feed, launched Saturday morning, is tracking the bridge demolition and road repairs at the site of the fiery tanker-truck crash near Interstate 95’s Exit 15, which has triggered traffic gridlock throughout the region since Thursday morning.

The real-time video, posted by the state Department of Transportation, can be accessed by clicking here.

As of 11 a.m. Saturday, half of the bridge, which carried Fairfield Avenue in Norwalk over I-95, had been demolished as construction crews work toward the goal of reopening the highway by Monday.

But by early afternoon, what remained of the fire-damaged span had been completely torn down. The webcam showed repair crews clearing away debris that still littered the road surface.

““There is significant interest in this ongoing emergency project, and this live video feed will help in our mission of keeping the public informed of the latest conditions on the highway,” Gov. Ned Lamont said in announcing the camera monitoring the repairs scene.

The video feed was posted, Lamont said, to dissuade spectators from trying to visit the area.

“We encourage everyone to view the video feed safely from home and do not attempt to travel to Norwalk to visit the scene up close,” the governor said. “Let the crews do their jobs so the highway can get reopened as quickly as possible.”

Lamont has issued a “state of emergency” declaration to marshal resources to reopen the highway, and on Friday the state’s entire congressional delegation wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg asking for assistance from the federal Department of Transportation’s Emergency Relief Program.
