WESTPORT — A community vigil is planned Sunday for the Israeli hostages still held by Hamas after its terrorist attacks last Oct. 7.

The “Bring Them Home” event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Compo Beach.

Organizers hope to collect 101 chairs, which will remain unoccupied during the seaside vigil, symbolizing the empty places in the 101 hostages’ homes nearly a year after they were captured by Hamas.

The gathering to mark the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attacks and hostage-taking is the latest of several Westport community meetings and vigils held over the last year to call for the return of hostages since the events of Oct. 7, 2023.

Prior to the vigil at Compo, a “peaceful walk through town to raise awareness for the hostages who remain in Gaza” is being organized.

The walk is scheduled to leave at 11 a.m. Sunday from the parking lot of Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court.
