WESTPORT — A “teach-in” on abortion rights is planned Jan. 21 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport.
The program, open to the public, will take place after the 10 a.m. service Sunday, Jan. 21, at the congregation, 10 Lyons Plains Road. A complimentary vegan brunch will be served.
People planning to attend should register by emailing events@uuwestport.org, although walk-ins are welcome, according to event organizers.
Attendees are asked to wear an item of pink clothing as a sign of support for women’s rights and the reproductive-rights marches scheduled nationwide during the weekend to mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision on Jan. 22, 1973. That decision was overturned by the court on June 24, 2022.
The event is planned by the congregation’s Gender Equity and Reproductive Justice groups and REACH, an organization that “works directly with Connecticut abortion providers to financially contribute to abortion care for those who cannot afford their out-of-pocket costs,” according to its website.
Discussion will include updates on the status of abortion rights in the state and across the nation, as well as access issues for women and the trans and non-binary communities, event planners said.
