WESTPORT — Who has the recipe to claim a slice of pizza prestige in Westport?

That will be decided in March as the “Great Westport Pizza Contest,” organized by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce, invites the community to vote for their favorites among 15 local pizza purveyors, competing in eight different categories.

The month-long contest, last hosted by the chamber in 2018, officially gets underway at noon Wednesday, March 1, when a “Pizza Month” proclamation is issued by First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker at Romanacci restaurant, 46 Railroad Place.

Balloting, via the pizza page on the chamber’s website, also begins March 1 and runs through March 31. Voters are encouraged to use the hashtag, #greatwestportpizza, with social media posts about the contest, according to organizers.

The 15 restaurants participating this year include: Cuatro Hermanos, Gallo Pizza, Golden Pizza, Joe’s Pizza, Julian’s Kitchen, La Plage, Old Mill Grocery & Deli, Outpost Pizza, Parker Pizza, Pizza Lyfe, Rizzuto’s, Romanacci, the Spotted Horse, Tutti’s and  Via Sforza.

Pizzas will be judged in eight categories (each restaurant is eligible to enter up to four):

Best Slice, Best Personal Pizza, Best Meat Pizza, Best Gluten-Free Pizza, Best Veggie Pizza, Best Plain Pizza, Best Delivered Pizza and Best Flat Bread Pizza.

Everyone who votes in the contest is entered into a drawing to win a free pizza from a restaurant selected as tops in one of the categories, according to the chamber.

“This is a fun way for our community to interact, support our local restaurants and, best of all, get to eat lots of pizza,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in a publicity release announcing the contest.
