WESTPORT — It’s doubtful any Yankee Doodle Fair attendees plan to arrive “riding on a pony” to the Westport Woman’s Club event, as the traditional song suggests.
But police have issued a parking and traffic advisory for more conventional modes of transportation during this week’s four-day event.
The Yankee Doodle Fair will take place from 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 15-16; 1-10 p.m. Saturday, June 17, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 18. The event is set on the Westport Woman’s Clubhouse grounds, 44 Imperial Ave., and the municipal parking lot at 50 Imperial Ave.
The Imperial Avenue lot will be closed for general use from Wednesday, June 14, through the end of Sunday, June 18, so the fair can be set up and dismantled.
Street parking is not allowed on nearby Thomas Road for the duration of the fair.
Drivers should expect many pedestrians and vehicular congestion along roads to the fair, police warn, and urge caution and using alternate routes when possible.
