WESTPORT — A pickup truck smashed into the back of a disabled tractor trailer in the right shoulder of I-95 just south of Exit 19, at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday, rolling over several times and creating debris that apparently struck a third vehicle, according to witness reports gathered by the Westport Fire Department.

“The driver was assisted from the pickup truck by bystanders,” Assistant Chief Matthew Cohen reported. “The driver of the tractor trailer was unhurt and was reported to be out of the truck off the side of the highway at the time of the crash.”
“A third vehicle was reportedly struck by debris from the pickup and the driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries,” he reported.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a trauma facility and no further information was available on his condition as of Friday evening.
Fire personnel responded to the incident, along with Westport and State Police, Westport EMS, and Fairfield emergency responders.
“The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police,” Cohen reported. “The crash resulted in all three lanes of the highway needing to be closed for approximately one hour.”
