WESTPORT — They’ll have all their ducks in a row.

Lots and lots of yellow duckies cascading down a giant sluice on Jesup Green.

The waterfall of fake fowl, of course, signals the return Saturday of the “Great Duck Race,” sponsored by the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club

This year’s race and Fun Fair are set Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair features family-friendly activities and food trucks at the Taylor parking lot adjacent to the Westport Library.

At 1 p.m., 3,000 yellow ducks shoot down a 160-foot-long slide — each duck is assigned a number — onto a race course constructed by the Fire Department and Sunrise Rotary members on a grassy area by the library.

A total $10,000 jackpot in prizes hangs in the balance for the first 10 duckies crossing the finish line.

The person with the ticket number for the first-place duck will win $5,000, second place is $1,000 and third through tenth places win $500 each.

Tickets, which cost $20 each, can be purchased from Sunrise Rotary members, the Webster Bank office, 244 Post Road East, and online by clicking here

The Great Duck Race, inaugurated in 2009, is one of the club’s largest annual fundraisers, benefiting a range of philanthropic projects.

Because time is needed to set up and dismantle the event, the Taylor lot will be closed for parking from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Police advise drivers to expect more pedestrians than usual downtown, as well as traffic delays, over the course of the event.
