Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak at Temple Israel

WESTPORT — Ehud Barak, a former prime minister of Israel, will speak Sept. 20 at Temple Israel.

Barak, in his remarks, is expected to discuss “Israel’s current security challenges, the upcoming Israeli election and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war,” according to program organizers.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the synagogue, 14 Coleytown Road. The program also will be live-streamed.

Advance registration is required. Those planning to attend in person will be required to show photo identification.

Barak, who became the most decorated soldier in the history of the Israel Defense Forces over a 36-year career, served as the nation’s prime minister from 1999 to 2001.

He also has held other prominent posts in Israel’s government, including as defense minister and as minister of internal and foreign affairs.
