WESTPORT–The next few days are the last chances for dog owners to take their pets to Westport beaches for the season.

Beginning Wednesday, April 1, Compo, Old Mill and Burying Hill beaches are for humans only. No dogs allowed, in or out of cars, from then until Oct. 1, the town Parks and Recreation Department announced. The only exception is for dog owners going to and from boats moored at Ned Dimes Marina at Compo Beach, but the pets must be on leashes.

Dogs are allowed to romp year round on the fields at Winslow Park, at Compo Road North and Post Road East. But the department reminded owners to follow the rules regarding which areas allow dogs to run off their leashes and which require them to be kept on leashes.

The department also reminded the public to keep dogs off ball fields at all times “for the safety and well-being of our athletic field users” and “to help keep our fields in good playing condition.”
