STAMFORD — The Stamford History Center will introduce a special miniature exhibition at its headquarters this week to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the city’s team playing in the Little League World Championship.

The exhibit will open on Thursday, Aug. 20th. The exhibit will feature several artifacts from the 1951 contest, which ran from Aug. 21st to Aug. 25th in Williamsport, Pa. and pitted Stamford’s team against players from Austin, Texas. Stamford won the game 3-0.

“The 1951 Little League World Championship is legendary in our city,” said Michael Macari, executive director of the Stamford History Center. “If you grew up here, it is embedded in our consciousness as a community. It remains a great source of pride for Stamford to this day.”

Items on display will include the World Championship trophy as well as individual trophies awarded to outstanding players, uniforms and equipment used by the 1951 team, photos, and newspaper articles. In addition to items from the Stamford History Center archives, some artifacts were donated by the Lione Family Foundation.

The exhibit can be viewed during the Center’s regular hours. Admission is free.
