WESTPORT — “Shorefest,” the annual seaside benefit organized by Friends of Sherwood Island State Park, will take place Sept. 6 at the park.

The event, which supports the Friends’ programs at the park, is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the park’s main pavilion.

The program will feature dinner, with a selection of lobster, salmon, steak and vegetarian options. There also will be a live auction.

The mission of the Friends of Sherwood Island, a nonprofit volunteer group established in 1995, is “to assist the state in enhancing the park experience.”

Over the years, the group helped the state fund and build the park’s Nature Center, as well as underwriting upgrades to the center’s internet and electronic technology.

Other Friends’ projects include funding repairs to the center’s touch tanks, supporting internship, pollinator garden and free educational programs, replenishing dune grasses and rebuilding the park’s owl habitat.
