WESTPORT—The public is invited to join the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club at its regular meeting on Friday, Oct. 3.
Guest speaker Erick Russell is the Connecticut State Treasurer.
Born and raised in New Haven, Russell is the first in his family to graduate college. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Haven and a law degree from UConn. After law school, Russell joined the Connecticut law firm of Pullman & Comley where he was a partner in the firm’s Public and Private Finance Group.
As Treasurer, Russell administers Connecticut’s pension funds (which holds $62 billion in assets), oversees the state’s debt and cash management, collects and returns unclaimed property, and manages the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), a 529 plan that helps students and families save for higher education.
Russell successfully secured funding to launch CT Baby Bonds, a first-in-the-nation program to combat generational poverty. He is prioritizing financial literacy, sound fiscal policy and necessary statewide investments that maximize resources while growing the economy and combating systemic inequities.
The public is invited to attend the meeting at Greens Farms Congregational Church, 71 Hillandale Road. The meeting starts at 7:30 a.m. and Russell will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. Coffee and breakfast snacks will be served at 7 a.m.
The event is free.
