WESTPORT — It “shore” is easy.
Let a bus whisk you the waterfront, via a new summer service offered by Wheels2U Westport.
The free Wheels2U “Park Connect” service picks up passengers from anywhere within the Westport service area and transports them to Sherwood Island State Park, and also provides a ride home.
Rides are available between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and summer holidays, such as July 4.
Rides can be booked via the Wheels2U Westport app.
Only trips that either end or begin at Sherwood Island State Park are provided, according to Westport Transit District Director Peter Gold.
Asked why the local service does not go to Compo Beach or Longshore Club Park, Gold said, “Because so many people have discovered the beauty of Connecticut’s state parks over the past two years, the state wanted to make them accessible to more people.
“Park Connect, which is entirely funded by the state, overcomes the lack of transportation many people face when trying to get to the beach,” Gold added. “Westport is fortunate to have this additional way for its residents and visitors to get to Sherwood Island’s beautiful beaches.”

The summer service is provided in addition to the Wheels2U routine transit program of rides to and from the town’s railroad stations.
