WESTPORT — Helping older adults shovel out from snowstorms and cope with other outdoor chores, while helping teens rake in extra cash.

That’s the idea behind a town Department of Human Services program that facilitates a list of local middle and high school students available to be hired for outside work this fall and winter.

The suggested pay rate is $12 an hour, according to DHS.

Teens can be hired for raking leaves or other yard work during this season, and for shoveling driveways and sidewalks in wintertime.

  • Students interested in being included in the DHS hiring inventory should contact the department at 203-341-1050 or humansrv@westportct.gov
  • Senior citizens seeking assistance with outdoor chores should contact the department at 203-341-1050.
