WESTPORT–Community members throughout Fairfield County are invited to volunteer on service projects alongside local Rotary clubs during an “Epic Day of Service” on May 16.

In addition to Westport, service projects will take place in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk and Wilton. Organizers say the activities offer residents a hands-on opportunity to give back while connecting with neighbors and partnering with local non-profit organizations.

Organized by local Rotary clubs and the Interact Club at Bridge Academy in Bridgeport, the initiative comes at a time when many individuals and families are facing increasing economic and social challenges, organizers said.

Projects will last two to three hours and will focus on a range of community priorities, including food insecurity, homelessness awareness, public space improvements and support for military veterans and individuals with special needs.

The activities in Westport are:

  •  Improving the Compo Beach Playground: Installing personalized fence posts and a new Peace Pole (Compo Beach Road)
  • A food drive at Stop & Shop (1790 Post Road East)
  • Helping with an American Red Cross Blood Drive at VFW Post 399 Westport (465 Riverside Ave)
  • Helping with the Westport Library Book Sale (May 15-May 18) (20 Jesup Road)
  • Planting and sprucing up the gardens at the Gillespie Center, an emergency shelter run by Homes with Hope (45 Jesup Road)

The first 25 volunteers will receive an “Epic Day of Service” T-shirt.
