WESTPORT — The Westport Rotary Club recently lent a hand supporting the work of a diverse collection of community-service organizations.

This year, in fact, checks from the club’s Community Partnership Organization grants program were hand delivered to recipients. Peter Helt, the club’s community giving committee chairman, personally did the honors.

The proceeds, in previous years, were handed out at a May luncheon meeting, but plans this year call for a recognition event sometime in the fall, according to club officials.

Funds for the Westport Rotary’s community grants are generated through various projects, particularly the annual Lobster Fest.

Among the 33 groups awarded grants this year were a range of Westport-based social-service, housing, education and addiction-prevention organizations “whose programs are in keeping with the goals of Rotary,” according to the announcement.

Those groups include: My Team Triumph, CLASP Homes and Circle of Friends, Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford, Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport and Horizons at Norwalk Community College.

Three organizations — Homes with Hope, Positive Directions and Park City Prep Charter School in Bridgeport — were awarded grants in record amounts, club officials said.

Announcing the 2022 grant recipients, the Westport Rotary “was inspired by the depth and breadth of services provided by all of its grant applicants during this unprecedented time of need,” according to the statement.

The Westport Rotary Club meets weekly Tuesdays (except the last Tuesday of the month) from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Greens Farms Congregational Church.
