WESTPORT — Something’s blowing in the wind.

To some, it’s too noisy, too polluting and too much of a nuisance.

To others, it’s a useful homeowner cleanup device and a vital apparatus for workers employed in yard maintenance.

“It” is the leaf blower — particularly, the gas-powered sort.

The blow-by-blow over leaf blowers, between the annoyed and the employed, is about to unfold locally as a proposed ordinance to regulate use of the devices is reviewed by town officials.

Representative Town Meeting committees in September reviewed a draft version of an ordinance that would restrict use of gas-powered leaf blowers to designated times of year, as well as impose other controls.

A forum to “Clear the Air on Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers” will explore the issues Nov. 8 at Wakeman Town Farm.

The panel discussion is planned at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the farm, 134 Cross Highway. Tickets cost $10 and can be reserved here.

Panelists will include: Kristin Schneeman, a District 9 RTM member and lead co-sponsor of the proposed ordinance; Valerie Seiling Jacobs, a lawyer and advisor with the non-profit Quiet Communities, and Alice Ely, advocate for Westport’s Pollinator Pathway.

The discussion will be moderated by Liz Milwe, Wakeman Town Farm co-chair and proponent of Westport’s plastic bag ban.
