WESTPORT — Larry Kleinman, who has logged more than 4,000 hours in service with the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service, was recently presented with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award, presented by the Office of the U.S. President and AmeriCorps, recognizes “a lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation through community service,” according to a WVEMS release.
“Larry has demonstrated his skills, abilities and compassion in thousands of 911 medical emergency calls,” Mike Burns, the WVEMS president, said in announcing the honor.
“The community and our organization are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional and dedicated individual like Larry Kleinman available and ready to respond to emergencies and provide community education,” Burns added. “His logged-in volunteer hours vastly exceed the minimum 4,000 hours required for the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Other top President’s Volunteer Service Awards were presented by Burns to:
- Youth Corps Members of the Year: Jenna Baumblatt and Ryan Blake
- Crew Chief of the Year: Larry Kleinman
- EMT of the Year: Yves Cantin
- Volunteer of the Year: Andrew O’Brien
WVEMS presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to 32 other volunteers, comprising a wide range of backgrounds and ages who provide more than 18,000 hours of emergency medical coverage yearly for Westport.
