WESTPORT — Yankee or not, you’ll have oodles of fun when you come to town this week for one of Westport’s dandiest traditions.
The Yankee Doodle Fair, sponsored by the Westport Woman’s Club, returns for a rollicking run from Thursday, June 16, through Sunday, June 19, on the club grounds, 44 Imperial Ave.
Carnival rides, food, entertainment, raffle prizes and more will be part of the fun during the fair’s four-day run.
Hours are: 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
No parking will be permitted on Thomas Road near the fair grounds, according to police. Dogs are not allowed at any time during the fair, organizers say.
Net profits from the event will help support Westport Woman’s Club charities in Fairfield County, as well as need-based college scholarships for Staples High School students and the club’s food closet that coordinates with the town’s Department of Human Services.
Yankee Doodle Fair highlights are:
- Amusement rides including a traditional carousel, plus Flying Dumbo, Dizzy Dragon, Frog Hopper, Scrambler, Cliff Hanger, Zero Gravity and Expo Wheel. Pay one price for unlimited-rides wristbands, available every day.
- Food options include: Hotdogs, hamburgers and similar fare, as well as beer and wine, sold by the Westport Exchange Club; baked goods prepared by the club’s Gourmet Group; Grecian Delights offering gyros, souvlaki and shish kabobs; Skip’s Good Humor Truck selling ice cream treats, and the Ultimate Waffle offering waffle confections.
- The slate of entertainment includes: Hawkins, a pop/rock band performing 7:45-9:45 p.m. Friday and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and Sweetcake Mountain, an acoustic country/bluegrass band, from 4-6 p.m. Saturday.
- Tickets for raffle prizes will be on sale throughout the fair. First prize is $1,000, second is $500 and third is a rose gold-and-diamond necklace valued at $650. In addition, the “Take a Chance” tent will offer a variety of prizes, many donated by local merchants and restaurants. Winning raffle and Take a Chance tickets will be drawn Sunday at the fair’s conclusion.
