U.S. Rep. Jim Himes

WESTPORT — U.S. Rep. Jim Himes will deliver the annual Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Memorial Lecture on Oct. 24 at the Westport Library.

The congressman will speak on the topic, “Key Issues Facing the World and the United Nations Today,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the library. 20 Jesup Road.

The lecture, coinciding with United Nations Day, is named in tribute to the late Ruth Steinkraus Cohen, founder of the United Nations Association of Southwestern Connecticut, who over the years helped to promote local ties with the United Nations and its officials through various local events, including the annual “jUNe Day” program. The bridge carrying the Post Road over the Saugatuck River is named in her honor.

Himes, a Democrat representing the 4th Congressional District, is seeking election to a ninth term this year. He is the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and on the House Financial Services Committee.
